It is nightfall.
There is a soft hum through the air that is constant and distant. The heat is like swallowing a warm blanket with each breath. My mother’s aunt, her daddy’s little sister, shares with me all that is on her agenda for the next few days. In between her task list, she tells me of my family and asks about the farm.
“You know my daddy had three gardens. He did a little bit of everythang. We ain’t know nothing about being poor,” she says. “Well, I got choir rehearsal and I gotta plan for the class reunion. Maybe we can go to Mr. Charley’s if you got time.”

Three generations gather together to eat and plan
for the next family function. One relative is not in
the photo, and the photographer is also sharing the
moment. There are a total of five generations of
relative storytelling.
